Every few years, KGSBC do a sponsored row to raise money. Our last row was September 2016 which raised £42,000 for Young Minds and the boathouse……
On Saturday 10th September 2016 over 100 rowers aged from 14 to 78 took part in the 2016 KGS sponsored row, rowing from Henley upon Thames all the way back to the boathouse in Thames Ditton. All the school rowers (J15 and above) took part as well as some of the Kingston Grammar Veterans Boat Club and an octuple of newly trained parents trying not to let their children down. They were supported by 10 coaches in launches and 80 parent helpers manning the locks, making lunch, providing water and good cheer for the rowers.
Despite continual rain, lock breakdowns and a shortened event for some, over £42,000 raised for the charity Young Minds and the boathouse.
During the day they consumed 150 bananas, 180 tomatoes, 200 rolls, 150 portions of pasta, 8 kilograms of cheese and 100 bowls of porridge topped up in the evening by an amazing celebratory hog roast back at the boathouse.
